Question:

How can I tell if my solar light is working?

If I put a 'charged' battery in it, it will light-up after dark. But, I don't think the 'solar panel' is charging the battery! Is there a way I can check it, without getting too complicated?

  1. You could purchase A 12 volt tester at the hardware store and test the battery, it should indicate a charged battery at 12 volts.

  2. Well in the daylight put them out by the sun so they can charge natural by the sun's light energy and when the sun is gone put them in the ground and they will light up.

  3. You know how to use a volt meter on a battery?  Try it on the terminals of the solar panel in direct sunlight.

And make sure the voltage from the solar panel is greater than the battery.

  4. get a multimeter. should be around 10 bucks. Radio shack or ACE hardware. You can use it for many other things too. Battery testing, continuity of wires, ( do they work)

  5. put it out in the sun and if it turns on its working if not it nots working

  6. When you say a charged battery, do you mean a regular duracell or energizer? Or do you mean a rechargeable battery? You should only be using rechargeable batteries in the solar light...I'm pretty sure most solar lights come with a special rechargeable battery.

If you are using a rechargeable battery and want to test to see if the solar panel is charging the battery, take the solar light inside and cover the solar panel, it should light up like it does at night. Drain the battery this way, then put it outside in the sun again for the solar panel to charge it. If it lights up at night, it's working.
