How can I tell if my son who is 21 months old has apraxia of speech?

21 months old is young to be diagnosed with apraxia of speech.  It is not too young, however, to be diagnosed with other speech and language "issues".  I am guessing that your son is not talking.  I would get an evaluation from a licensed speech language pathologist.  The evaluation will look at receptive language (how well your son understands us), expressive language (how well you son is able to communicate out his wants and needs).  You can look at ASHA (american speech and hearing association) on the web at asha.org.   They will have a list of the developmental norms and you should be able to find a therapist close to you.  Good Luck.
