How can I tell if my unit is a 2.5 ton or 3 ton?

How can I tell if my unit is a 2.5 ton or 3 ton?

Get the model number and look it up online.  You can also check the BTU rating.  As I recall it takes 12000BTU's to make a ton.  So is it a 30K or 36K unit?

Most manufacturers will include a number in the Model # on the name plate. An 030 or 30 would be a 2.5 ton. An 036 or 36 would be a 3 ton. Whatever the number is, divide by 12 and you'll get the tonnage.

There is a panel on the fan motor.  Open it, and u see a small plate that describe the size and model number.
