  1. Delete Microsoft Office and go to Openoffice.org. The program is freeware and completely compatible with Office. It's created by the people who bring you Java. MSO is too expensive and is loaded with stupid stuff that you don't even need (the talking paperclip.)

  2. That product key is probably the key to the Operating System (Windows XP or Vista).

If you didn't buy MS Office, the one on your new computer is a trial version. If you don't want to splurge on MS Office, try OpenOffice:

    http://www.openoffice.org/

    Hope this helps.

  3. try to open it and if u have to type in a code then it's a trial

  4. If you didn't pay extra for Microsoft Office, that's a trial version.  I don't know of anyone who bundles the full version of MS Office for free.

In addition, there would be a second product key on a set of MS Office CDs; the one on the machine is for the Windows operating system.

The trial version will be good for 25 uses or 30, 60 or 90 days, after which it will let you read and print your files but not edit or copy them.

Until then, you can use it by clicking the Continue button on the registration screen.  Keep an eye on the uses-left countdown so it doesn't expire in the middle of an important project.

    Hope that helps
