Question:

How can I tell my dad he needs to wear sunscreen?

Ok my dad sits in the sun all day, everyday, and he never wears sunscreen! He has very fair skin, so I'm really worried about him. He doesn't like to wear it because to him it feels greasy and he gets pimples on his back. He gets sunburned every day and still does nothing about it!

We tell him that maybe he should go to a dermatologist and get some special kind, but he still says he doesn't need it! I'm worried that when he gets older he's gonna have skin cancer!

What should I tell him?

  1. search the net 4 horror stories/pictures and show him then play the freaked out kids card so you can guil him into it

  2. tell him u care about him and that its dangerous and tell him why.. he will listen.. trust meh im the same way i hate that stuff.. good luck ;)

  3. Buy him a bottle of Neutrogena Spray on Suntan Lotion and tell him that you want to have a father around when you get married or have kids. Make sure he knows how much he means to you and that it would mean everything to you if he took the time to protect himself from the sun.  Neutrogena Spray on Suntan Lotion isn't greasy and doesn't cause pimples. It comes in 3 different SPFs and its really easy to apply. Goodluck.

  4. obviously, you have already expressed your concerns to him and he isn't responding, you can't always make somebody do something he is going to have to want to help himself.  Possibly show him some pictures of people who have skin cancer.

  5. Tell him you love him and then give him a bottle of the greese less spray-on copper tone....how could he not do it for you?

  6. yeah he probably will get skin cancer at some point, look up some skin cancer rates and show him. i think its something like 40-50% of fair skin people who live to old age get some form or another. sunscreens dont usually aggravate acne, thats mostly sunblocks

  7. Say " Hey dad, you should wear some sunscreen."

  8. My dad is like that too - spends time in the backyard (unfortunately in his BOXERS) and never uses sunscreen. I haven't said anything because most of my family is like him, and they all are fine (mainly because his side of the family are basically farmers, so I think they have better skin or something?).

Anyways, if I were you, I would say, "Daddy, because I love you so much, I am going to insist you put on sunscreen. Lots of people that have skin cancer today didn't think they would get it either, and I actually WANT you to live!" Or something convincing like that. :) Make sure he realizes that cancer is usually preventable and unexpected!

Also, I would print out web pages or articles about skin cancer and the importance of sunscreen!

  9. buy him an oil-free sunscreen and present it to him all wrapped up and tell him that although he doesnt seem to want to wear it, he should do it for you as a present or something because you love him and dont want him to get cancer and not be around in your future.  try crying, that always works.

  10. There is only so much you can tell a person.... after that it is up to them to put it into play. Sometimes finding articles of real people with real experiences can move a person to change. See if you can find articles of people who developed skin cancer after the same "it's not gonna happen to me" mentality. Good luck!!

  11. Tell him the cons of not wearing sunscreen. But hey, it is his decision and mistake not to wear sunscreen. Tell him that you are really worried about him, and make him limit his time outside so he has to wear the sunscreen. Make him go to the dermatologist for his own good.

  12. He needs it.  Look up a bunch of facts about skin cancer and pester him about it ALL THE TIME and he might get annoyed and finally do it.  Hopefully.

    Hope i helped.

    Good luck.
