Question:

How can I tell where the 40 yard dash is on a normal track?

I've never run track, but am curious to see how fast I could run a 40 yard dash.

There's a regulation 400 meter track at my local community college around the football field. Are there lines there that show where it starts and stops, or do I have to bust out my tape measure?

Thanks

  1. Simple get a trundle wheel and mark out the 40m mark with a big stick or something.

Only do this if the local track doesnt have a mark for 40m like mine doesnt.

Hope this helps you sprint your 40m dash and good luck on your time!!

  2. They have the lines, you can ask anyone that is there, i bet that they can help you. Or there will be markings on the track every 10-20 meters, and then you will be able to see where it says "40 meter" (right before the finish line)

you should probably do this with a partner, so you can time each other. Good luck, have fun

  3. There are no marks on the track that is going to show you 40 meters.

You can look at the women's 100 meter hurdles and the spacing between each hurdle is 8.5 meters so you can get close to 40 meters, or the men's 110 meter hurdles are spaced 10 yards apart, so that is also close, but not exact.

Using a tape is the only way to be exact.
