I started playing around with boxing with a bud of mine and Ive quickly become addicted. Im 19 so im a little old to just be starting out. What exercises can I do to become a power puncher. All my punches right now are quick with little power behind them, quick flurries. But I want to be a knockout guy. What should I do?

  1. your not to old to start boxing, rocky marciano was pushing 30 when he started boxing...you should learn about pressure points,iv personaly ended fights quick by landed one good shot to the solar plexus!

  2. Ur legs and hips. When u throw ur right pivot ur left foot and turn with ur right foot into the punch. Punching power comes from ur legs. Like a pitcher, who kicks their leg up to get power from their lower body. You still need to work out ur biceps and triceps too. Learn to put ur weight behind ur punches, it's a beautiful thing once u learn. You will have a lot more confidence when ur learn how to correctly throw a punch.

  3. if you are in boxing then go for the nose then when their hands are on their nose go for the stomach. if your not in boxing dont take my advice.

  4. You have to use your whole body when throwing your punches and use angles.  If you get in a pool and throw some blows the resistance from the water will help your force.  With a jab you should twist your wrist at the point of impact to produce a snap.  For the uppercut your legs are normallly shoulder width apart and your hips should swing the same way your arm does.  With a hook its' opposite as your hips and arm head in different directions.  Watch some boxing matches and pay close attention to the small details that I have explained.

  5. As others said, punching comes from your full body. But I would also focus on triceps when working out.

  6. Put your butt into it when you throw punches. If you have good stamina throw flurries on there face more often. Experiment around with how many flurries you can throw and for how long before you become to winded to fight more than 75%

  7. power is natural, and it doesnt come from your arms like most people think, it comes from your legs and hips, to build up power in a punch you need to build up torque in your body first, as you punch you need to twist your legs and hips with the punch, if you dont do that the weight of the punch will only be in your arm, but if you do it correctly the force of your entire body will be behind the punch, and also remeber to never be embarrassed in the gym, your just learning and keep in mind that everyone starts at the level your at felt and the same way you (no matter what they say)
