How can I throughly clean a leather tote bag?

Question

I bought a used leather tote online in excellent condition, but since it was previously used before it has some stains one the inside of the bag and a few marking on the outside. How can I give the bag a good cleaning without damaging it? Should I take it to get dry cleaned or can I throw it in the washer or what?

Cool bag.  Try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser - I bet it'll work.    I wouldn't put it in the washer - I'm afraid it would ruin it.
