How can I trace my Micmac (Mi'kmaq) Indian heritage?

I only know my great-grandfather came form Canada & was Scottish & Mi'kmaq. I know his first & last name & that's it. There's a lot of info missing.

How can I do this? Will it cost a lot of money? Thanx!

  1. Go to a Native American Indian site, I found one for OK, that had several different tribal rolls, burial grounds, etc., you can even put in an application to be accepted by the Tribe, but you will have to prove your descent, good luck!

  2. Do you know which province he was born in or lived in? Did he stay in Canada or did he move somewhere else? Roughly when did he live?

We can help you find the right resources once we have a place and time frame to reference. Canada has a mishmosh of records that aren't all in one place. But many are on the internet. If he left Canada, then the next set of records would be somewhere else. It's easiest to track people from Quebec and Ontario. The farther east or west you go from there, the harder it is to find the records you need, unless he was a Metis or moved into the US or Alaska.

  3. You could post his name and whatever dates you know  to see if someone here can do a look up for you.

    That would be free.
