I have developed a new site for marketing my client's product online. I want to track the website traffic by which I can implement techniques to promote the site. How can I track a website?

You can use the free Google Analytics tool. It is very detailed and will provide extensive statistics.

Just type in 'Google Analytics' into Google and you will find it.

Web servers usually record their every transaction in a log file. Log files will provide information such as how many visitors are visiting your site, how many page requests you get per visitor, which are the top entry pages and exit pages etc.  Log files are read by a program called web log analysis software. Microsoft's IIS Web Server produces rich log files with information about each transaction the server makes. IIS analysis allows you to develop your site specifically for your visitors, helping them get to the things they want to faster, and making them do the things you want them to do easier.

You can get free traffic counters.

Google analytics is good: www.google.com/analytics

Mvtracker is another good one, although it's not as extensive as analytics but I've found it works better for me: www.mvtracker.com

Statcounter.com is another fairly decent one.
