We just adopted him yesterday, and he is already 3 months old. Now, I put him in a room away from us every time he does this, but you may have another good suggestion. Grams

  1. CATS Hate the feeling of Tin Foil under their feet!! Line the table with it and soon he will find other places to go. GOOD LUCK

  2. Christin K took the words right out of my mouth! lol I used the balloon trick with great success. And the spray bottle also works well for when they try to claw the furniture.

  3. Double-sided sticky tape on the table in strategic places.

Or tape a couple of blown-up balloons on the table; when the cat hits it with his claw and it pops, he'll remember very well (without  harming him) that the table is not a pleasant place.

Or buy a plant-squirt bottle and give him a shot of water every time he gets up there--though that is the least likely method to work. Cats get very good at avoiding the area when you and the bottle are around, but will get up there anyway when you're not there.

The balloons can 'babysit' your table while you're gone, though. So can the tape.

It's a cat's nature to want to sit on the highest place in the room. you may be fighting an uphill battle with this one. If I were you, I'd just buy a cheap tablecloth for most of the time, and take it off when you have guests or eat dinner. Isolating him doesn't work with cats--they just don't care that much. You should forbid him to be on the table when you eat, of course--so the squirt bottle is good then.

  4. Scat mat - can be purchased at most pet stores.
