  1. First prep it by hitting it with a heavy chain to distress it.  Wipe down entire piece with Liquid Sandpaper.  Rub edges randomly with a candle.  The wax will prevent the black paint from sticking and the under-finish will show through.  Finally paint the piece with black egg shell paint or lacquer depending on desired effect.  Lightly sand or steel wool between coats, it will probably take at least two.  Don't skimp on paint or brush quality, it will show up in the finished product. Renting a paint sprayer for a large piece of furniture is also an option. Consider nickel hardware for a modern look (if appropriate)

  2. spray paint or paint it black and take a towel and  blot or rub some parts like the corners i guess. um go on homedepot.com or marthastewart.com you might find it there

  3. Lightly sand the piece of furniture, to get off any old urethane, dirt, and grease.  Then clean the furniture with a mild soap and water

Find a good black matte paint, (I suggest Behr paint).  Paint two coats of paint, let thoroughly dry and the sand area's to look distressed.  Use a coarse sand paper around 60 to 80 grit.  If you get fine sand paper it will take it down to bare wood.  Try not to get yourself worked up over making patterns with the distressed, believe me when I tell you that random patterns look much better.  Finish with a water based urethane, Behr makes one that is good, and it has a nice matte finish that is not glossy at all.

  4. Seriously all that I would do is lightly sand it down, prime it, paint it with a few coats of black, and sand some areas down for a more distressed look. Now, if you mean the nicks in the wood, try the chain thing that was recommended too. If you just mean some areas of paint that looks distressed, try the sand paper.

    Good luck!!
