  1. Yale and Harvard are amongst the many top-tier elite (read: very expensive) universities that have recently announced significant changes to their tuition policies.

The bottom line is this - thanks to the HUGE endowment funds that these schools have accumulated, Yale, Harvard and a few other highly-regarded schools can pretty much guarantee a free, or nearly free undergraduate education to every student who is accepted.

The schools will look at your parents' financial ability to pay - so it's not as if the Trump family would attend Harvard for free.

However, if your parents earn between $60,000 and $120,000 a year, Yale (for example) would only require them to contribute somewhere between one and ten percent of the cost of your education.

For example, if your family had an income of $90,000 and assets of $150,000, they would be expected to pay just $2,950 a year. The rest of the funds will be provided for you in the form of institutional grants, which you will not have to repay.

Paying for Yale, Harvard and Oxford is now the least difficult part of attending these schools. As always, the difficult obstacle is gaining admission.

I've attached an article that explains the financial aid program at Yale - I hope this helps!

  2. The above is pretty misleading. Half the class at Yale and it's peer schools do not need or qualify for any aid. For the rest of the students, Yale will make sure money does not stop you from attending. They will give you all the aid you "need, but they define need. If your parents make a good living and have assets such as a nice home, they will be expected to contribute. All aid is need, not merit based.

That said the hardest part is to get in. You will need to be at the very top of your high school class, taking the hardest classes. You will need a very high SST score, a 2250 is above average at Yale. You will need strong activities outside of the classroom. Last, you will ed a lot of luck. Because of space limits, Yale must reject the majority of fully qualified candidates every year.
