How can I turn off the glove compartment light in my Sport Trac?

I close it but the light stays on...

There will be some kind of button that gets depressed when it closes, it's probably faulty.

In a pinch, take the bulb out and get a small flashlight to put in the glovebox. It will stop the drain on your battery until you figure out how to properly fix it.

As was stated by another, typically there is a button or level that the door hits to turn off the light. You may need a new switch but get one from a junk yard rather than pay retail. They seldom have problems so you are likely to get a decent one.
