Question:

How can I unclog my toilet when there's nothing in the bowl?

This is the stupidest question I've ever asked, but I don't know what to do. My toilet is clogged...but there's nothing in the toilet bowl (or whatever you call it). I tried sticking the plunger in there but of course it doesn't seem to do a thing since the problem is apparently deeper. So, what is one thing I can do here to unclog my toilet?!

And I'm not calling a plummer for this.

  1. Yep use a wire coat hanging and bent it into the right shape for your toilet.. If you have one of those smelly cleaning things hanging on the inside of the toilet that could have come off and come stuck??

  2. i would try a cup of baking soda, then add about a quart of vinegar, be careful because it will bubble up when you add the vinegar, so watch your eyes and get the lid down as quick as you can!   Wait about an hour and flush.  It would even be better if you could turn off the water first, look behind the toilet and see if there is a turn off,  then flush your toilet to get rid of most of the standing water in the bowl.  I do this to my kitchen sink all the time!  good luck

  3. I am pretty sure liquid plumber would do the job, or a pipe snake. If not, I would recommend a professional. You can clog the whole sewage line and have it back up if you don't.

  4. The plunger is good if just has something stuck. but if it is like atoy.. I  have used a wired hanger before.. the next alternitive is to take the toilet off at the base.  Happy swimming!

  5. keep plunging and plunging, it takes a while sometimes.  you can also get what is called a drain snake from a hardware store and run it into the toilet.  w/ that you can grab the clog.  other than that, there are drain cleaners and such.

  6. Usually the clog isn't in the bowl.  Try plunging again.

What clogged it...  a big log of poo?  If this is the case, let the toilet sit for a few hours (if plunging didn't work).  The poo will absorb water, get soggy, and dislodge the next time you flush the toilet.

  7. It may need to be snaked, in which case you need a plumber, who has the right equipment.

  8. Use a BIIIG straw and suuuuuuck hard!

    Should do it.

  9. Are you living in an apartment block or a house?

If you are in a house, force a hosepipe down as far as possible and open the water to its fullest extent. Be careful, should the bowl fill up, remove the hose and plunge to the best of your ability, then when the bowl is empty, use the hose again. you should get it clears unless there is something solid causing the blockage

    Regards

    Richard.

  10. Maybe it's time to clean the septic tank. Don't call a plummer

  11. Try slushing down a bucket of hot soapy water and then flush. Do this a couple of times and with luck it may unclog. Depending on whats down there. My daughters cell phone went down ours clogged up the works . Plumber was my only option.
