I have bought a Dell Studio 1535 Laptop but in the laptop there is only 1 ethernet port.but there is no port for my phone jack to connect to set up a dial up connention. I dont have a broadband or wifi connection so I have to use the dial up using the phone cable but i can not connenct the phone cable into the ethernet port,so I was just thinking, is there any sort of converter where i can plug in my phone jack and then connenct the converter into my ethernet port to use my dial up connenction? Thanks a lot ! cheers!

  1. Very few modern laptops have modems these days. The best method is to use a usb modem. Zoom makes a nice one, its small and allows you to connect to dialup. http://www.zoom.com/products/dial_up_ext...

Or you can find PCMCIA modems which connect through the card slot.

    like these http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/...

    Good Luck

  2. Apparently this laptop does not have a built in telephone modem.

There are USB modems available.  These plug into a usb port of the pc and from the modem to the phone line.

Some usb modems are externally powered, some battery powered, some derrive power via usb port.  Most people report very good performance with the externally powered devices and many do not report decent performance with the usb powered modems.
