I want to use an infrared remote in a different room, but I do not know how I can hook up the HDMI cable from the cable box to the TV from the other room. Is this possible?

  1. get your instruction book

  2. It's possible to do this.  What you want is an RF remote control, NOT an IR one.

You'll also need to employ RF to IR signal blasters to "translate" so that the devices will actually get their remote control codes.

Logitech's got a couple of Harmony products that do RF, and there are some high-end products out there that do similar things.  Something like a Harmony 890/1000 with the RF Wireless Extender will fit the bill nicely.  The Harmony 890 runs about $275 on Amazon (list price is $349).  One RF extender is included with the 890, and extra ones cost about $100.  One extender can control 4 IR devices.
