Question:

How can I use my PC (Vista) to record TV?

I have a laptop with HDMI output, and my TV obviously has HDMI also. Is there any way to watch/record TV on my computer without having a tv tuner? Can I, for example, hook up my cable box (time warner) to my laptop instead of hooking it up to the TV, and get essentially the same result (having the picture on the laptop instead of TV). Then, if that's possible, can I record the picture to my hard drive? What software would I need for this?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm essentially trying to use my laptop as a DVR without having to buy a TV tuner.

Thanks!

  1. Sorry. You need either a video capture card on your PC or a TV tuner. However, you can get a variety of USB-based TV tuners or video capture cards at a very low price.
