To make a long story short, there is some dispute between a former employer and myself about how much I was paid during a certain period. Upon my request, my old boss was able to provide xerox copies of a number of checks however he cannot provide copies of the back image of a few. Other than my signature, what information is usually on the back of old checks and is it possible to verify the authenticity of a check with this information?

  1. Usually on the front of the check, somewhere along the bottom where the OCR numbers are imprinted for the routing number and account number, there will also be imprinted, after the check is deposited, the amount of the check also in OCR numbers on the same line as the routing and account numbers.  The back of the checks will contain stamps of the banks upon which the check was paid  or deposted.

  2. You need the info on the back of the check to prove it went to your account. Ask your employer to give them to you or be prepared to produce them in court.
