How can I view my film from my sony dcr-hcr38 into my computer using a USB connector?

I only have a USB connector and when I hook it up in the drive

it give indication of a connection but will not let me view it ,

  1. The Sony DCR-HC38 is a miniDV tape based camcorder.

    Read your manual. USB is for transferring stills off the memory card only.

    To transfer/view/import video from the miniDV tape, you need an i.Link (Firewire, IEEE1394a - all the same thing) cable connected to the DV port of the camcorder to a firewire 400 port on your computer.

    If you do not have a firewire400 port on your computer, they are cheap and generally easy to add.
