  1. Hamster's are nocturnal...but mine loves to come out to play during the day (although she had babies 2 weeks ago, so I am leaving her alone right now).  I just talk to her and make some gentle noise to wake her...and offer her a bit of her favorite veggies to let her know you are her friend (especially if she is new to your home).  Mine comes right to my voice because she knows my voice means a treat! ;-)

  2. Don't wake him up my dad says if you get their sleeping habits messed up they could die because they are nocturnal and it probally gets them really stressed and like I said could die. So play with him when he is awake.

  3. I would suggest to not wake him up because he can get upset (I think you already figured that out). If you want to play with him, stay up until it gets dark and play with him if he is awake.

  4. Never try and pick up a hamster when they are sleeping.  instead, call to him, gently poke him or nudge the bedding around him.  Wait until he at least sees you.  hamsters do NOT like being awoken suddenly.

  5. Try to wake him up by putting his favorite treat next to his nose (works for me.) Or try waking him up by softly speaking to him. Don't grab him. Or you can always wait until night time so he's already awake. Good luck!
