I am currently a 2 handicap according to my GHIN and have only played a limited amount of tournaments so I am not very experienced. Golf is a huge passion of mine and I am continuing to get better. The only problem is the school I attend is a D1 program and they just got a new golf coach. What should I do?

  1. Ask the coach to review your credentials and let you play the equivalent of the team's qualifying rounds. You feel that you would be an asset for the team. At college, several of us transferred from one of the branches to the main campus. While at the branch, our coach challenged the University coach to a match in which  our players defeated the University team  5 matches to 1. The following spring 4 of us made the University first team in a 36 hole qualification.

  2. Tell him what you just told us and prove yourself on the course, If what you say is true the Coach would have to be an idiot to pass on a talent as yourself.

    Good Luck.

  3. Contact the coach. If you can't figure out how to contact him, contact the athletic director for the coach's number.

Just tell him you have a registered handicap of 2 and you're interested in playing for the school and possibly negotiating a scholarship. Chances are when he hears that you're a 2 handicap, he'll at least agree to meet you at the driving range for a try out. After hitting a bucket of balls, he'll probably take you for a round of live play and if you do well, you're in.
