How can I wash a hat/ cap in the dishwasher?

So I hear and read you can wash baseball hats in the dishwasher. How?

Can I have dishes in the bottom and put them on the top, or just do them by itself? Do hats get cleaned with dish detergent or do I pour laundry detergent into the dishwasher?

Thanks!

  1. I have never heard of putting one in the dishwasher, if this is a baseball cap, you can find a  plastic cap holder that you put your hat in and then you can put it in the washer/dryer and it will keep its shape.  I have seen them at the dollar store, so you can obtain one very cheaply =)  Good luck

  2. Put any dirty cotton or washable wool cap on the top rack, secure it by using several plastic clothespins, add the normal amount of dishwasher detergent, and run through a regular wash and rinse cycle. Remove the cap before the drying cycle and place over a large coffee can so it keeps its shape while air-drying.

You can also use a baseball cap form (available at sporting-goods stores) for washing and drying, either in the dishwasher or the washing machine. I would wash the hat alone without anything else in the dishwasher do a few hats at a time to save energy so you dont run it for just one hat! :)

  3. Wow, I've never even heard of that. I'd try to get it dry cleaned.

  4. I've heard you can put a bowl that is similar in size under the hat and this will help keep it's shape.I don't know if the bill will keep it's shape or not.I'd try washing the hat with the one (clean) bowl only, incase other dishes have something on them that may stain the hat. As far as the detergent, I'd stay with regular dishwasher detergent.Any other detergent may create too many suds.I hope this helps you.

  5. first no to the dish washer i have never heard of that and what a mess that would be with laundry detergent. i will tell you how i take care of my husband caps and believe me i i have about fifty of them he lives with one on. i have about fifty of them to clean he lives with one on.

run warm water in the kitchen sink

      put your laundry detergent in

soak your hats  (make sure none of them will bleed if so separate them)

now take a old tooth brush or a scrubbing brush and hold the bill  and clean inside and outside

    now clean the bill

dry on hangers in shower or outside their shape will be fine.   your hats will look new all the time no matter how much you paid for  them not unless  they are real old.

    good luck
