I need to wipe my computer because I have a virus that I cannot find the source of, and it is keeping me from using some of my programs. Can someone give me an explanation on how to fix this?

I have looked through other questions like this, but I couldn't find any step-by-step guides for people who don't speak much computer.

  2. You just need to reinstall Vista. You need the Vista OS install disk, which either came with your computer or can be requested from your manufacturer. To boot from it, you may have to rearrange your BIOS boot order. If you can put the disk in the drive and restart the computer, and it goes to a install screen, then skip the next paragraph of instructions.

To rearrange the BIOS boot order, restart the computer. As it starts up, watch for a message on the screen early on. It will say to press F2, F12 or DELETE to access setup or something similar. Press this key, and it will come to a text screen. Find a way to get to the boot menu (it varies), and rearrange it so that the CD drive is first. Then reboot the computer with the Vista disk in the drive. If you messed anything up in the BIOS that makes you computer stop working, go back to the menu and choose "default settings" or something similar.

Now follow the instructions on the installation disk, and make sure to overwrite your existing installation if it asks.

  3. use Vista Installer CD or DVD.
