I am extremely out of shape. I just want to get back in shape and start biking and running again. Just walking at a fast pace gives me a side stitch.

So, how can I work myself up to running distance? Should I start out with one mile/day? Two miles/day?

I'm currently 5'6" 125lbs and gaining weight because I eat more than I burn. I just overall want to lose this weight I gained and get back in shape and stay in shape.

  1. just take it slow, maybe start off with a 1/2 mile jog, then progress it more and more. might wanna drink more water before you go out and stretch a bit before you make a run.

  2. Try not to worry about distance right now. Just go for a run and time yourself, i don't mean run as fast as you can, just see how long you can keep up a nice easy pace before you have to stop.  Then start to run for an additional 5 minutes. So if you can currently run for 20 min, and have been doing that for like a week, start trying to run for 25, and so on.

When you run is completely up to you. Everyone has their own preference. I personally like to run in the early mornings when its still quite outside, i find it to be very relaxing.
