My fiance and I are going to have rocks as our wedding favors on the tables and we were going to get our own rocks. I guess my question is what kind of pen/paint do we need to use to make it permanent? Do we need to do anything special to the rock so we can write on it??

  1. I used model paint for the rock in front of my house. I cleaed the rock well, and let it sit in the sun for a while before hand, but it worked like gangbusters. 4 years, and still beautiful.

  2. After you wash the rocks and have written on them with a "sharpie" or with a a small paint brush using an enamel paint, you might want to spray them with an OUTDOOR polyurethane.  This will seal the rocks and paint or ink and leave them with a finished coating that will not only preserve the writing but dress them up a bit.

  3. try a permanent texta

or non washable paint or another type or permanent material

when using this make sure you dont get the rock in contact with water

otherwise the text on the rock will slowly wear away

  4. There is a paint called Patio paint. It looks like the little craft acrylic bottles but it's made for outdoor use. I used it on a cement stepping stone about 5 years ago and it still looks great. You can buy it at any craft store that sells acrylic paints.

  5. Wash and dry the rocks. A Sharpie will work as well as anything short of engraving, and the cost of engraving would be over the top. Congratulations and love. Goldwing
