I've seen it before when people are showing 5 ^ -2 or something like that.

Also if anyone knows how to get the + and - sign (combined)

thanks

  1. I'm not sure if you can. maby you could copy and paste from a word document.

tho i think 5^-2 is perfectly understandable. perhaps put the minus 2 in brackets just to make absolutely clear what you mean.

    5^(-2)

  2. for ± hold down the Alt key and press 0177

for ² hold down Alt and press 0178

if you are using Windows, go to Start -> Run and type in charmap.

this has a lot of common characters that you can use.

  3. try symbols on microsoft word and copy and paste it.

    other than that i dunno.

  4. I know for a fact that you can't.  I even tried copying and pasting from Word and it just changed it back to normal.  What I usually do is capitalize what should be normal and lowercase what should be in subscript, or put whatever needs to be in superscript after a ^ symbol.  So, for a logarithm, it would be:

    LOGxZ = Y

And for an exponent it would be:

    x^y = z

And for the + and - thing, I just do +/-.  Hope this helps!

  5. On a Mac, just use the Character Palette, which can be enabled in the International preference pane.

On Windows, use alt codes. Hold down alt while pressing the numbers on the number keypad. A few alt codes:

    241 ±

    253 ²

    251 √

    236 ∞

    242 ≥
