Question:

How can SEC fans legitimately hate on the Big-10 given the facts...?

All day long (and really, during all of the last 2 years...thanks a bunch OSU...) I've been reading ridiculous stuff from SEC fans who you can tell have never read the facts (or maybe even 'read' ever), or who have just started watching college football as of two years ago. You've beaten OSU twice...congrats! But using that as an excuse to say that the entire SEC is better than (and many are making the laughable assertion that it's always been this way) the entire Big-10 is about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Here are the facts about the Big-10 vs the SEC in Bowl Games, with links from espn.com and one from Wikipedia to prove it (not like "facts" and "reality" really matter for people like LSUBalls, gvoze, and Jerith N, but here' goes anyway):

-Ohio State is 0-9 vs the SEC. As this is all I hear about, I doubt that this needs a link to prove it (whooppeee! pat yourselves on the back dixie-rebs! yeehaw!!!)

HOWEVER....

-Michigan is 7-3 vs the SEC, including 2 recent wins against Florida and one each against arkansas, alabama, and auburn.

-Penn State is 7-4 vs the SEC, with 3 recent wins against tennessee and one gigantic stomping of auburn.

-Iowa is 3-2 vs the SEC, with two very recent wins against LSU (in 2004) and Florida (in 2003).

-Minnesota (that's right, freakin' Minnesota...and they're garbage!) is even 2-1 vs the SEC...

...so, in conclusion, can anyone really argue with a straight face that the SEC is better than the Big-10? I mean, last year Michigan stomped Florida IN FLORIDA, and teams like LSU were losing to teams like Iowa not even 4 years ago. Lots of SEC fans like to ignorantly say stuff like, "oh yeah, well those stats included games from the 1920's!", when infact almost all of the Big-10's wins against the SEC have come after 1990, and almost all of the SEC wins were from the times of leather helmets (go ahead, check the links out...). Feel free to say that you 'own' Ohio State, because clearly you do, but if you look up SEC stats vs all of the other Big-10 teams (the other good ones that is...I don't want to hear about Northwestern or Vanderbilt on either side), you guys get perenially owned by the Big Ten.

End of college football lesson...

  1. finding success on one team doesnt sound as if they have much to boast about in recent years huh, the record according to the ones you just gave its a tie with 19-19. So that Ohio St horrible luck with the sec

is what fuels their pride, they havent picked on anyone else in the big 10 other than ohio st.

  2. PSU

Wins - Tennessee, Tennessee, Tennessee, Kentucky, Auburn

    Losses - Auburn, Florida

    Michigan

Wins - Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida

    Losses - Alabama, Tennessee

    Iowa

    Wins - LSU, Florida

    Losses - Florida

    Purdue

    Losses - Georgia, Georgia

    Indiana

    Losses - Auburn

    Wisconsin

    Wins - Auburn, Arkansas

Losses - Georgia, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee

    Minnesota

    Wins - Alabama, Arkansas

So the Pac-10 is 18 - 21 against the SEC in bowl games. = SEC is better.

This is not even taking into account regular season OCC records or Bowl records against teams that aren't in either conference.

  3. everybody is always talking **** about ohio state being in the national championship game, sure does suck to have won 7 nation championships, something that only 5 other schools have done, so until your team gets to 7, shut the h**l up

  4. To the guy above me, one of OSU's losses was pre 1990, therefore it's a two game edge to the SEC. Given lowly purdue took mighty Georgia to overtime twice, I think it says they are about even. The point he was making is even if the SEC has an edge, it's very slight. If OSU was out of the equation, the big ten dominates.

I think at the end of the day, this stuff goes in cycles, and there really isn't much difference between the big 4 conferences, over an exended period of time.

  5. It's called ignorance. Some people wont let facts get in the way of their argument.

  6. It would seem to me that with so many Big Ten fans wanting to eliminate Ohio State from the equation that the voters in the polls would not rank them so highly every year.  Gosh, if you can't get the Big Ten fans to respect them, how do you expect to get them respected by the SEC fans?  It's mostly to do with Ohio State and not the rest of the Big Ten Conference but it would sure be nice for the Big Ten to have a conference championship game.

  7. you are becoming one of my favorites on Yahoo Answers, you are dead on, and I completely agree with you.

Ohio State does not fair well against the SEC in bowl games...they do own a lifetime in season record of 7-2-2 against the SEC...and the 0-9 bowl game mark ...that equals out to 7-11-2

see, SEC have small, what have you done for me now type of attitude...I bet they have only seen 2 games in which a SEC did play a Big 10 team and that would be the last 2 national championship games...mind you, the SEC did win in convincing fashion, but the rest of the Big 10 fairs very well against the SEC and your stats and game scores prove it

didn't Michigan (who lost to App State, and was blown out by Oregon, and at the end of the season were taken care of pretty easily by Ohio State) beat Florida.....in Florida?

  8. its just that some sec teams just dont care about the bowl games but why they dont want the sec vs the big ten in the regular season

  9. Alright there Milkdud...you got 4 of the teams in your conference vs the SEC....what about the rest of them...fact is...3 BCS footballs in the last 5 seasons....choke on it.
