How can US catch up China's Gold Medals?

Look at the table. US has 19 golds and China has 37 golds. Total count of Medals is like only 1 differece. I wonder how can US catch up?. gezzz its like almost 20 more golds then US.

The United States has a slew of sports they can and will medal in.  Currently there are 117 gold medals to be won.  Several are for sports like, basket ball, valley ball, soft ball, and track and field.  These are all sports the United States is strong in and China is not.  The Unites States will have the most gold medals, and will win  the total medal count by a large margin. This is how it went down in the past, and how it will go down in 2012.

They can't and without Phelp's 8 gold the USA would be on 11 gold, which is the same as Australia and Australia only has 1/15 the population of the USA.
