  1. Actually, I believe the maximum weight for the Flat Rate Box sent Internationally is 20 pounds.

    Law of averages. For every box that goes with a lot of weight, there are more that go out with less weight that normal. On the whole, it will average out slightly in favor of USPS.

    The Flat Rate Boxes are designed for convenience, not necessarily to give the consumer the best rate. many times it would be less to use a regular box and pay by weight and zone.

    But then you have to consult the zone chart, have an accurate weight, make sure that the measurements are within the rules and then mail.

    With the FRB, you use the specific box, print a label, and off it goes. Simple, easy and convenient, but not necessarily cheaper in all cases.
