  1. No pitcher would ever tell you he has "mastered" pitching. The best thing you need for pitching is your brain & experience. You need to find out what works best for you & use that to its full advantage. Just pitch as much as you can as often as you can & figure it out.

What words great for say Josh Beckett wouldnt work very well for Jaime Moyer. Everyone is different. Find out what words for you!

  2. I agree with Laker Man. Be careful throwing a curveball or any other type of breaking pitch. stick to a fastball and a change. if you can find someone that is willing to work with you see if they can teach you some of the other fastball grips (Cutter, splitter, forker, sinker etc.) and if you really wanna get tricky try a knuckler. I think you don't have to throw hard to be a good pitcher, just look at the older guys in the MLB (Mussina, Moyer, etc.) they still get guys out. You don't have to be a k-out pitcher to be effective just work on your location.

  3. when you are so young be careful throwing too many breaking pitches (curve and slider). I had to get tommy john surgery when i was a sophomore because i started throwing my curveball in 6th grade.

I'll give you two tips- Find a reputable pitching coach in the area (perhaps one with major league pitching experience) and work on a CHANGEUP. A changeup is not strenuous on your arm and is a fantastic strikeout pitch when perfected. With the changeup find the grip on the ball that you feel most comfortable with, there is NOT just one good way to throw the pitch. Good luck buddy!

  4. If you want to pitch, & have never pitched before, I would recommend, getting lessons. Check around your area, I'm sure there are places you can go, & get instruction!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

  5. it takes time and patience...find an arm angle that works for you and dont try to to sling the ball 120mph..work on different grips and locatio.Remember the speed of your pitches depends on your arm strenght...your arm strenght depends on good work habits.....

  6. In the fall when school starts, go and find the coach.  He/she is probably your best bet and can help you get into a program that will help with things.

Baseball is of course a spring sport in HS, but they often do have "Captains Practices" in the fall.  (Many state athletic commissions prohibit the coaches from being involved officially until a certain date, but captains are allowed to run practices and pick up games.  Other states do have and allow for fall league play.)

What you can do in general though - get into shape.  Run, build upper body strength by doing push-ups.  I would avoid weights until you get a chance to talk to a doctor or athletic trainer as it is generally recommended that you don't start lifting weights so young.

  7. Practice, practice, practice.
