  1. Yes, a person your age could walk a dog. Ask a neighbor who has a dog if you could accompany that person as he or she walks the dog. Observe what he or she does, how she handles such. As you observe and start to feel comfortable, you can ask if you could walk the dog. Do this with other neighbors as well. Your goal is to earn trust, learn how to handle dogs, and gain experience.

There is a great book called "How to Be Your Dog's Best Friend" by the Monks of New Skete. This book will give you insight into how dogs think, and will make you a much better dog walker.

  2. Go to the local SPCA or a neighborhood Vets office.

They will probably be glad to have you help out.

  3. Check at your local SPCA for the age guidelines, but for sure you could walk dogs for neighbors, seniors, etc.  Ask your parents to help you find a way.

  4. in the US, no....the age requirement is 16. you may walk other people's dogs, like you're neighbors and stuff, but dogs from the shelter and those who have ben rescued (that are now in the city's care) you can't. However, in some vet offices, you may help out. it just depends where you look. Good luck.

  5. Where I live, Animal Services does accept volunteers under the age of 16, IF a parent or of age relative volunteers with the youngster. Call your local animal shelter and find out.

Veterinarians might also be receptive to young volunteers, if they are VERY trustworthy and reliable. There are many of them, and they'll make their own rules about whom they accept in their clinic.

  6. Yes, you can help out with dogs and other animals.  Before you go to an animal shelter to help, since you have no experience, try around to your neighbors and give out flyer advertising a pet sitting or dog walking company.  Im sure people would be more than willing to let you help out, and it gives you time to learn how to work with other animals. Then research local animal shelters and see what age you need to be to work with the animals. At the ASPCA around my neighborhood i think you have to have a parent with you if you are 13-16, but some of the local animals shelters around my neighborhood let kids as young as 11 to volunteer.

I am so glad you are interested in helping animals.
