Heres my situation. Im a 21 yr old college senior earning a degree in engineering. I go to a small university and i stay at home to save money. I have scholarships that pay for all of my tuition fees and books. I dont come out of pocket for anything. I have no loans and great credit. Seems like all is well but i work a mediocre part time job making about $12 an hour. I probably wont be there but another month or so. I need an alternative to make some cash money for myself aka gas, food, clothing, basically money to spend on myself. I could manage easily with about 200 a wk. I just need some suggestions. Any input is greatly appreciated

  1. Why are you leaving the job? stay there. Sell the books you don't need anymore on ebay.

  2. Selling blood and plasma is a pretty standard college money-making ploy.  But if you want a weekly income, I'd go with finding another job (though at $12 an hour, I'd stay where you are).

  3. I don't know where you live, but around here (and it is a college town) a job that pays $12.00 is not mediocre.  The only legitimate way to earn money is to work for it.

  4. $12/hr is pretty good for not having a college degree yet. If you can stay, you should stay. If not, check out a variety of local jobs. I worked for FedEx Ground for years as a manager and my package handlers made about that. You can check out one of those. Since they are a 24 hour/day business, the schedule can work around your school schedule. You can make your $200/week pretty easily there or consider UPS or something like that. It's also a great workout! Since you are going into engineering, maybe you can find something suited to your field. Engineering is so broad, but if it is electronic, look into some sort of electronic technician. If it is civil engineering, look into some sort of civil engineering entry level position. As a senior, it isn't a bad idea to get your feet wet in your industry and start to network and get to know people.

  5. you could work more hours, seriously where are you going to find another job that pays as much? you can get 2 jobs, try to cut expenses, dont buy things you dont need, dont eat out often try to buy for groceries at places like sams and costco

  6. As a senior, I'm sure you have lots of experience in taking (and succeeding) in engineering classes, math classes, whatever.  Most schools hire part time tutors on campus and a pretty good wage...although 12 an hour sounds pretty good to me.  If the school doens't have any openings, consider creating your own job.  When I was in college, I earned money for gas to and from school by tutoring adult students in small groups in Algebra.
