  1. go to school and study the fundamentals of engines.. diesel and gasoline.. electrical systems... transmission and rear and drive shafts.... now an addition school will be required to understand the computer. or brain driven vechicles.. this is acourse of all its own.. emission controls and how they work as a group to meter gasoline... also the firing or ignition system is now electronic.. requires knowledge.. a mechanic is no longer called a mechanic but a auto tech... if you under stand how to diagnose the computer or brain in the modern autos you start at 15 an hour and lots of increases depending on your knowledge. ok gilermo.

  2. From the sound of it...

I take it there are no vocational courses offered where ever the place is that you must be locked up in.

WOW Man... I don't mean to be mean or nasty... God knows, I am willing to help anyone... but how can you be 28 years old and not know the answer? I would expect this question from a 14 year old.

  3. If there is no Marine schools around just go to a marina with a service shop and talk to the service manager. Tell him your situation and if you are really wanting to make it a career then try hiring on as an aprentice. Dont waste your money on the MMI schools or whatever they are called. We have a couple guys at our shop that came through the school in Florida and they are dummer than a bag of hammers. Just my experience on that though. Surely not all are worthless. Just go in as an apprentice and you will be fine. Decide what you want to work on. Outboards or Sterndrives. Outboards are simpler to work on and around so they pay less. Sterdrives you have to get down in the bilge and not only know your engine stuff but also everything else on the boat. Head, freshwater system so on and so forth. Good luck and its a very rewarding career. Just remember its a seasonal job. Not saying you will get layed off in the winter but the summer is Balls to the wall so say bye bye to every weekend off.

  4. the very same way all younger students do it   go to a tech school or vocational school and learn

  5. By passing certain mechanical tests. Both written and practical!!

  6. go to the marine mechanics institute or other similar program.
