  1. By changing her training techniques, never missing training and training harder than her competitors. Of course she can be doing this well without doing performance enhancing drugs.

  2. no shes just really good

  3. Obviously, you've never been around a peri-menopausal woman with raging hormones.

  4. Sadly, cheating is so pervasive that it's hard to look at her accomplishments without at least wondering.

However, the improvements in techniques since her earlier days are such where she probably would have been much, much faster back in the day than she is now.  Plus her exclusive work with one of the true geniuses in stroke technique (Bill Boomer) have made her better, technically than she ever used to be.

Plus, remember, when someone is in the prime of youth, they usually think they're indestructible, and don't live the "clean life" as much as someone older and not part of the hip social scene might.

Is it the magical suits and better training?  Maybe.  Chances are slim, but possible.  I want to think she's doing it on the up and up, but I've had faith too many times and felt foolish, so I wouldn't be utterly shocked if it wasn't so.

If she is cheating, increased drug testing wouldn't make any difference.  She's realistic enough to know that anything she accomplished would be looked at with a jaundiced eye, so she volunteered, a long time ago, to being under an increased random drug testing by the governing bodies, which also includes blood in addition to urine testing, so she'd be able to put some of that criticism to rest.

  5. Dara is an experienced and elite swimmer. She has logged countless hours training in the pool which gives her a deep "base" to contribute to her success. The thousands of high quality yards she has piled up in the pool are the source of this base. She obviously has the physical attributes of top quality sprinters, which are fast twitch muscles. In addition to her experience, she must be disciplined and dedicated to her sport. Her Olympic experience can also be a great contribution to her ability to excel at this level. A lot of it at this level is mental.
