  1. Canada does give citizenship to others, not just doctors or  the college educated.

The critical matter would lie in whether Canada would recognize your qualifications. If you are part of a licensing body or other association, check with them first as they would likely know.

As for immigrating in general, please be advised that we are currently working through about 980,000 applications already. As Canada only accepts about 250,000 new immigrants each year, you can see that it is taking about 4-6 years for applications to be processed.

It is admirable that you would want to provide a better life for your children and Canada would certainly be the way to go. It's just that it will take a long time no matter what your background is. As the first responder noted, even foreign trained doctors have a long and challenging go of working here as a doctor.

Please look through http://www.cic.gc.ca and learn more.

  2. No, permanent residency is granted to others too.  The problem would be whether the licensing body for EMTs in Canada would recognize your training (and that's a problem for doctors too).

www.cic.gc.ca is the immigration website so start there.  But also try to get some info from the licensing body for EMTs and also the job market for them.   It is a long drawn out process for just about everyone, even university profs.   By the way your English is very good.  (Mi Espanol es muy malo)
