  1. Ok, here's how it works.  Vainikolo was born in Tonga then moved to NZ when he was a little kid and started playing rugby league.  Needless to say his nickname the human Volcano was well earned and he earned a call up to the NZ national rugby league team.  He was pretty sweet at that but had major injury problems.  Now here's the key part, since he had lived in England he was eligible to play for them in any sport except for rugby league since he had already accepted the call up from NZ.  He was also eligible to play for Tonga since he was born there.  To recap he could have played Union in England by residence, Tonga by birth, or NZ by parentage.  He, however, can only play league for NZ.

The reason is because league and union are two different sports with different governing bodies.

  2. coz he is aweesome!!

  3. it makes a mockery of the whole sport...

it turns international rugby into a club game

to play for a country you should be born there or have at least

    one parent from there

  4. He is not just any Tongan mate, he's the human volcano!

Man, he is going to spice the Poms up.

  5. Because he was a Kiwi, so he played for them.

Now because of fulfilling residency criteria he's eligible to play for England.

Same as Horsman plays for Wales.

The Paul Bros play for Aus and England.

Who cares, Vainikolo's awesome and we'll get to see him play a bit more.

  6. He can play because he has been a resident in england for 6 years.
