This is the age of green. Green living is not only a trend but a way of life. What can one do with a damaged bicycle chain rather then weigh down the trash bin?

  1. in so many ways hope it helped (not)

    just kidding (not)

  2. take it to a recycle center that buys scrap metals

  3. clean it and turn it into jewelry or a strap for a purse.

  4. Bike chains can be taken apart link by link. You can repair the chain by adding new links and recyling the old ones.

  5. I saw some craftspeople in Zambia using bike chain sections as hinges for doors, windows, and boxes. Some artists have welded the links to form vertebrae for small sculptures of creatures such as dragons, snakes, caterpillars, and such. I could see a chain that has been broken and extended into a length and supported at both ends for hanging clothes on hangers. If you wanted a more "industrial" set of coasters or hot plates for a table, coil some bike chains into spirals and weld or glue them to prevent unraveling. Putting many bike chains together (end to end) then draping them over nails or screws on a wall could be the start of an art installation... If I think of more, I'll sign on again. Good luck!

  6. bicycle chains are high quality steel, and can be recycled at any recycle plant that recycles metals.

most welding shops have a scrap pile that is pick up by recyclers.

  7. It can be forge welded into a solid bar and made into a really cool knife.  Either that or find a steel recycler.

  8. try www.earth911.org type in the item you want to recycle and they can usually find a location.
