  1. Provide an environment where they are free to explore and choose his or her own activities.

Use positive reinforcement rather than negative reinforcement.  (Don't say, "Don't hit him."  Say, "We touch gently" then demonstrate it.)

If one child hurts another child, show compassion to the child that was hurt.

  2. Just like everyone else insted of telling them what to do give them choices. if they will not come with you say to the toilet or to get a change tell them you can come on your own or i will carry you. it's your choice. lot's of choices means you still have leaverage but the feel like they are in charge.

  3. Allow them to make decisions in the classroom or the child care. You can give choices or just watch what they choose during play, eating or even when socializing. Comment on the choice with a positive message. Like what a pretty color you chose for that picture. Or maybe next time you could ask your friend for the book. Just be there for them and help them learn in a safe positive environment.

  4. Review the rules and give them TWO choices.
