How can a doctor or surgeon stay awake for 24 hours straight?

i was thinking about it and wouldn't caffeine or energy drinks make a surgeon or doctor shaky. and if so that would be bad in profession. how do they stay awake?

  1. They cannot stay awake! Training they tend to end up doing 24 hour shifts and can be on call for three days and nights. However it depends on what happens during the 24 hours or three days? If the Hospital has ER and is they have a pile up of cars, many people arriving with serious injuries they would not notice the time passing, get stuck in and collapse when they are off duty. However if the night is slow, they can grab a nap. Best of Luck


  2. Are you asking about being on call? They can sleep while on call as long as they wake up if they are beeped.
