How can a legal immigrant be tax exempt? Not even paying sales tax?

My husband works for a man of Asian descent who claims he pays NO taxes whatsoever. He sent my husband to Home Depot and told him to tell them that *John Doe* sent him because then he wouldn't have to pay the sales tax. The guy said he doesn't pay property taxes or anything. He has bought several properties and claims to have paid no sales tax on them.

How is this possible? Is this possible?

Don't believe everything you hear.

It's not.  As to property tax, the owner is not responsible for it, the property is.
