How can a manager compensate for the lack of strength in all four function areas?

one manager should balance all functions. (planning, organizing leading and controlling). Sometimes, though, managers are stronger in one function as opposed to the other. For example, as a project manager, I think my strength is leading.

How can a manager compensate for the lack of strength in all four function areas?

  1. Either learn the skills or surround yourself with people that have them  


  2. Find a mentor who can teach you what you need to know or take some classes. If you know anyone who has successful business skills or great people skills, ask questions and observe. A manager should be fairly competent in many aspects of the overall business and employees' jobs. However, that doesn't mean a manager has to be great at every position within the business. Ideally each employee should be efficient at his or her job. It shouldn't be the manager's duty to pick up the slack since the manager has his or her own duties. If you're a leader, then lead. You can learn skills you're weak in, but they'll probably never be your strengths. Keep striving for improvement. You can always assign certain tasks to people who seem to have strength in those areas. Best wishes. :o)
