How can a person get out of a work visa contract?

I have a friend that is a philippine citizen but left the philippines to work in dubai. She is being severly mistreated by the company she works for but she says the company taken her passport so she cant leave because she signed a contract with them. She has only been there 1 year and she now has bad health but they won't let her out of the contract. Is there anything she can do to get out of the contract or is everything she told me about her being held there against her will false?

The Philippines Embassy or consulate can issue an Emergency Travel Document so she can leave the country with that.

It is against the laws of all countries for an aliens passport to be with held from them.  Unless of course they have transgressed the laws of that country.

unless she has broken the law ,nobody can retain her passport , it is her personal property

Hard to say if it's true or false, but if it's true, she needs to contact the Phillipines embassy and if she can't do it, you can do it on her behalf and ask them to investigate.

This happens all the time.  The Philippine embassy is full of people just like this who are in the process of getting their documents back so they can leave the country.  Tell your friend to go to the embassy and tell them her story.

Have her Contact her nearest Embassy or Consulate in Dubai and have her ask for Immediate Assistance..State
