She has been told she needs a marriage certificate, divorce papers etc but they were all lost and she can't remember the dates to retrieve them and has no funds to hire a lawyer or someone to find the details.

Is there a public body that can give her advice?

Thanks.

  1. for her marriage and divorce papers she just goes to the recorder's office to get copies and the ss card she will have to file for a lost ss card to obtain a new one.

  2. www.ssa.gov has the forms and everything.

If she has a drivers License, get that first, it will make everything else easier. You have to specifically tell them you lost everything or they will not give you the form (you have to claim a hardship like house burned down or I have to drive to work) and get it notarized.
