  1. Liens are placed on real property, not on insurance claims.

    You can pretty much count on your health or car insurance putting dibs in on any payment you get including medical costs.

  3. The only time there would be a "lien" on an insurance claim is if you you received treatment and "assigned" all insurance payments to the medical facility to pay the charges. Then the medical facility can attach the payments of the claim.

  4. You need to contact your adjuster to find out if there is a lien.  Most likely the adjuster already knows, and has done the research.

    Otherwise you can contact whoever paid your bill to find out if there is a lien.  For example, if Medicare paid your bill, just call your third party Medicare company, and they will be able to tell you the amount of the lien.
