Is it possible for a single mother to enlist into the military when she has no one else to help her with her kids? What I mean is, how can a single mom go into the military if she has no one to care for her kids while she is in training?

  1. They will not let you enlist if you don't have a solid family care plan. They can't and won't send you away from your kid unless they know you have someone taking care of him/her. Don't be afraid to go talk to a recruiter. They'll help you out with it!

  2. Any single mother who wants to go into the military doesn't even care for her kids herself. Why should anyone else?

  3. Single parents cannot list in the Military.  You must give up custody of your child for the first enlistment.

  4. If you want AD then you need a solid family plan. You could also go reserves, they are taking single parents. Don't let anyone discourage you.

I too am a single parent and IT CAN be done. How bad do you want it?

  5. She most certainly can, and you will get paid for your kids. Just make sure you have your child support straightened out. And if you're not getting it, the branch you choose should help you get it. But if you have no one to take care of your kids while you're in training it will be hard. You'll have to find someone, like your mom, sister, aunt, grandma. That will have to be done First.

  6. You can't!

  7. I am a single mother working on enlisting with the Navy.  I know that I can provide a better life for my son and I after I serve verses prior.  Right now I am stuck in a dead end job as a glorified shelf stocker.   I am half way through college, and broke.  I want to serve my country, finish college, and be able to provide for my son.  The Navy will equip my with the knowledge that will enable me to accomplish these goals.

  8. Unfortunately, you can't. Single parents in the military (along with dual military) are required to have fool-proof plans, in writing, regarding who will watch the kids on both a short term and long term basis. If you don't have that, you can't be in the army. Plus, I think in order to even enter you would have to sign custody of your kids over to someone else.

  9. Exactly!  Dr Laura would chew your head off for even thinking about abandoning your kids!! to join the military no less!!  OY Vey!  She takes no prisoners when it comes to that subject!

I rarely agree w/Dr laura except with her take on the military; its a KILLING machine and women have no place in it! That's Her take, dont give me no thumbs down for that!!
