I am currently a sophomore in a prestigious university that requires approximately 40,000 yearly and I've come to a snag in the road. My parents are using their monetary advantage over me, forcing me to stay at home and not allowing me to apply for internships or coop's. As I respect them for raising me, I do not want to continue to be controlled and would like to find other options. The problem is my parents are well off and I have no financial aid to speak of, I have already looked into scholarships and plan on applying for some but they will barely hit the cost that I will be left with and applying for loans and such may be absolutely necessary but I do not know how to handle it and which I should choose. I'm really lost and confused.

  1. Most undergrad programs now have required internships attached to a couple of classes in their particular major.  Its pretty hard to graduate with a bachelors degree without completing at least ONE of these interns.  I seriously doubt they will object to you doing this for a particular class like this... most of which are required for you to graduate. (Most are senior level classes and you take them your last year).

What they could object to is you moving off somewhere for something either irrelevant or distracting to your particular major.  As I said, most internships are limited to your senior year.  If anyone is trying to get you to do this earlier, its only a scam to get more of your parents money.  You are still taking your gen ed requirements for goodness sake!!  Private schools are notorious for making every opportunity seem like if you don't do it you "won't be a well rounded" individual.  Trust me, no employer is going to pay you more money because you decided to go it alone and borrow 40K a year to do some mission trip/ in Ahh-bu-dah-be/immunized homeless children in a third world country, or <insert college prof free summer vaction trip here>.

Don't get distracted by things not related to you graduating.  If its extra and costs extra money.... don't do it.  Be thankful your folks are gracious enough to pay 40K a year.  Lay low and hold your tongue.

  3. Just go home to shower, dine, and sleep.  You should be able to hold your tongue for that amount of time.  The main library is a great location for most people to study.  Any park like scene such as the campus grounds might work for you too.   There might be some restaurants where you can hang out without continuously eating or drinking.  No part time job I know pays 40 grand.  If I were you, I would make it a must do assignment to be very nice to mommy and daddy.   Most of your class mates would jump at the opportunity they are giving you.  Your time at home is rapidly ending forever.  Don't lose your cool here at the very end.

  4. Hello Every every body,

I am Sonia James by name, i live in US, just a few month ago i was in search for a loan of $ 15,000 Dollars, as my family was running out of money for feeding and my education. i was scammed about $500 Dollars and i decided not to involve my self in such business again , finally A colleague of my introduced me to a loan firm due to my appearance and doings. I made a trial and i am most grateful am i today, i was given a loan amount of 10,000 Dollars by this great firm Petti Micro finance Inc,  managing director Mr Frank Petti

If you are in need of a genuine or legit loan or financial assistance and you can be reliable and trusted of capable of paying back at the due time of the funds i will advice you to, contact him via email Frank_pett55@yahoo.com and you will be free from scams in the internet

  5. If your parents are well off then you're pretty much up a creek...Both the school and the government will consider you a dependent, and expect your parents to pay.  If you need to get away, talking your parents into letting you spend a semester abroad should not be too difficult -- most 40k colleges expect/encourage students to spend a year in Europe, Asia, wherever. This will put stuff in perspective, let you stay *far* away from your parents, and probably still keep the checks coming in the mail from them.

Be grateful your parents can pay your way through college. Trust me, it's preferable to the $60k I'm already in debt with still a year left in school. Getting out of school with no debt and annoying parents is *far* preferable to working/paying/borrowing your way through school.

If Stafford loans don't offer you too much, be wary of other, private lenders. They're often sharks that will end up getting your parents' money anyway.

To sum up: 1) Suck it up -- they've paid for you this long, you can bite your lip for an extra 3-4 years. 2) When it really gets unbearable, take a semester abroad.
