  1. I saw some students in Art school doing group exhibits at local bookstores and restaurants.

the best thing one student did was entering a competition and she won first place.

  2. When teaching at conventional university, my students were encouraged to participate in a shared exhibition during their first year (it was a course requirement for the second and third years), places that they could go included; libraries - many have an area specifically for art exhibitions; airports(BHX Birmingham International, were always very helpful); hospitals (especially good for wall hanging art, and also free) and rented gallery space, between 3 or 4 students to spread the cost, where we were there were several 'cheap(ish)' galleries or empty industrial buildings available and I would surmise that this would be the case in most large towns and cities.

A good place to promote the show is the net, and the schools own intranet (if they have one), A-N newsletter is also ideal.

Good old fliers and mail shots work well too, as do posters.

See if you can get the press involved, many small/ local papers like to run stories about local events and this will also promote your work.

If you do put on a show, don't forget to get public liability insurance, just in case.

    Good luck.
