I'm practicing being a teacher and I see that this is going to affect evaluating the students. I don't want to be bias.

Thank you.

  1. you are going to have students that you prefer and ones that you struggle with. the key is to set a strict rubric for grading, make sure your students know what is expected & then grade by the numbers.

personally, if i give one student a break, i must give all students a break.

  2. When it comes to grading a lot of work, I try to start from the bottom and work my way to the top of the sheet.  Sounds silly, but this way I don't see their name.  I have a tendency to want to be tougher on some kids and easier on others based on the effort they put forth.  By grading from the bottom up, I just focus on the answers and not the person behind the answers.  This of course, doesn't work all the time.  Eventually you know their handwriting by heart.  :)

Other ways you can "trick" yourself are to make things random as much as possible.  Use Popsicle sticks w/their names to draw from a cup when you're calling on kids or asking them to run errands for you.

Other than that, you just have to be moral and look for the great in every single student.

  3. HAVING BEEN A TEACHER FOR 23 YEARS IN HIGH SCHOOL , I CAN TELL YOU FOR CERTAIN THAT IT IS NOT AN EASY THING TO DO .

    1.  BE CONSISTENT IN EVERY WAY . IF YOU GIVE ONE STUDENT SOMETHING , MAKE SURE YOU GIVE THEM ALL SOMETHING .

    2.  REMEMBER THE STUDENT CAN VERY OFTEN NOT HAVE ANY AFFECT ON HOW HE DRESSES , LOOKS , SMILES ( AT HOME HE MAY NEVER GET TO SMILE ) ETC . DO NOT PUT THE BALAAME ON THE STUDENT , RATHER LOOK AT AND TO THE PARENTS .

    3.  ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU ARE THERE FOR THE BETTERMENT OF ALL YOUR STUDENTS AND ANY OTHERS THAT MIGHT SEEK YOU OUT FOR HELP. DO NOT GET CAUSHT UP WITH FEELINGS FOR THE ONES THAT LOOK LIKE THEY REALLY NEED IT, HELP THEM ALL IF YOU POSSIBLY CAN , AND GET THEM HELP IF YOU CAN NOT HELP.

    4.  ALSO DO NOT EVER FORGET THAT ALL CHILDREN CAN LEARN , NOT ALL AT THE SAME PACE OR SAME LEVEL, BUT THEY ALL CAN LEARN SO REJOICE IN EVERYONE'S SUCCESS NO MATTER HOW SMALL OR HOW LARGE AND MAKE A BIG DEAL OUT OF IT WITH REWARDS AND SUCH ESPECIALLY VERBAL . LET THEM KNOW YOU ARE PROUD OF EACH ONE OF THEM .

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU , GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS YOU

  4. well I am a high school student and I know that some of my teachers like me, yet they don't have to tell me that they do. I think that its okay to give a break to students that have earned it. As a student if I see a teacher give a break to one of their students, then I don't feel bad unless they did it for no reason at all, but if that student HONESTLY worked hard, then it makes me want to have a better work ethic like that student, so I can be given grace every once and awhile.

Also its inportant that you reward students that do well even if its suddle (trust me chances are they will notice.) this will help motavate them to keep at it, instead of spending all your time focusing on students with negative attidudes about learning.

The best way to be a fair teacher in my opion is to grade all students the same, if you are going let a student slide that you notice was a good student talk to him and him only.

  5. try to favor the ones who are smart and succesful, at least with the grades, that's what you're doing anyway. Be sure to give everyone attention and help. and opportunity to participate. Some want to participate more than others and probably will. Encourage them to calm down cause it can be annoying and encourage others to speak up as should come natural.

Kids can be very sneaky, watch out for the overly friendly ones, they could be playing you for treats and favoritism. Stay on your gaurd and don't be too friendly.

Some tests have a right and a wrong answer, essays, don't look at the name at first and just read them.

  6. the biases to watch out for good looks, cuteness, cleanliness.
