How can a teen get started acting???

i really want to start acting but my parents arent really supportive. i live in a small town where there are barely any plays and if there are, there is nobody good. Im about to turn 13 and i have little experience...i am an AMAZING guitarist (if that helps a little) and i would really like to get out there...not so much plays...more like tv commercials and maybe better (if i am good enough)...how do i get started?

Identify a style that you want. A person, group, or company that really make you think "I want to do that". Find a way to  practice with their technique (and i said practice, besides study). practice is finally what will get you on stage in a solid way. Make yourself clear if you want either a JOB or an artistic activity that will make you happy. Being notorious is not necessary being talented, or, even worse, it will make you compromise many ethical things that you might not like to do or act in plays that you dont really like. The commercial circuit not always cross roads with the pure artistic lane, so you have to be focused in what you deeply wish. Welcome! Best of luck

Okay, you have the right mindset and you are in pretty much the perfect age range for wanting to become an actor :D

So what you have to start out with is this...

1) Get into the drama class at your school immediately

2) Drop by your public library and pick up 3-4 books on acting (and read them all ! but don't stop there, keep getting more and more books:)

3) Audition for all, and every performance venue at your school. (the more experience you get, the better!)

4) Swing by a local community college and take a couple acting classes

5) start memorizing and working on (extensively) audition monologues

6) Audition for all of your local community theatre, and church performances etc...

7) Talk to your parents (if you feel you are a strong enough performer, and if you like acting) about helping you achieve a career in acting.

8) Get some headshots done (nothing too expensive or flashy, just something clean and professional)

9) Find and audition for nearly all SAG or AFTRA approved talent agencies

9 1/2) If you don't want an agent, you can always audition at cattle calls, showcases, or talent searches

10) and remember... ACTING IS A VERY ROCKY CAREER CHOICE :D be ready for lots of rejection, criticism, hard work, and perseverance

but you can do it!! ^.^

If you are really talented it is not a problem to get support from your parents. You can get out of it by showing your talent to your parents and request them to give a chance to prove your talent.

The chances will not come to us. We have to do our best efforts to get the chances in all the available sources.

Talented artist will definitely flourish.

Go a head. You will definitely succeed in your interested field.

follow your dreams and get headshots done, then make a resume and maybe take some acting classes and submit it to local agencies
